After a sinus lift
These are general instructions. If your surgeon told you something different, follow your surgeon.
For two weeks — to protect the sinus
- Do not blow your nose forcefully.
- If you need to sneeze, sneeze with your mouth open.
- Do not drink through a straw, and do not smoke cigarettes or hookah.
- Avoid flying, diving, strenuous exercise and heavy lifting.
- Take decongestants and antibiotics exactly as prescribed.
This is normal
- A light nosebleed in the first day or two
- Swelling and bruising of the cheek, sometimes under the eye
- A blocked-nose feeling for a few days
Call the clinic straight away if
- Bleeding that does not stop after an hour of pressure on gauze
- A temperature above 38°C
- Swelling that keeps increasing after the third day
- Difficulty swallowing or breathing — go to the emergency department
- Graft particles coming out of the nose
- Air or liquid passing between the mouth and the nose
- Sinus pain or foul-smelling nasal discharge with a fever
